Clad-wood windows — warm, strong and durable
There is a reason why, when you price out windows, metal clad-wood windows are the most expensive. It is not really because they are the best, it's because they cost a lot to make. There are three major components in a wood metal-clad window — glass, wood, metal.
The window is manufactured in the same manner as a wood window, except that on the outside face they apply preformed metal over the frame so you don't have to maintain it. The metal doesn't give it more strength, it just offers that maintenance freedom we are all looking for. The metal comes in an array of colors, some even impersonate wood.
Wood is inherently strong, therefore a metal clad wood window is the choice for many architects and designers simply because homeowners like big windows requiring integrity and strength in the frame to carry a heavy piece of glass in them.
